Google has expanded its Skills Ignition SG program in Singapore to Google Career Certificates, a program that offers professional training designed by Google and the opportunity to network with top employers, as a new path.
Launched in 2020, Skills Ignition SG aims to provide Singaporeans and permanent residents with the skills they need to change technology and transform the job market through a combination of online training and on-the-job learning with local and global host companies.
Google says it is on track to meet the goal of helping 3,800 Singaporeans under the program’s current paths which include cloud technology and data engineering with fundamentals of machine learning and digital marketing.
“Adding Google Career certifications to Skills Ignition SG will enable us to expand the program once again, extending these benefits to thousands more Singaporeans. This spirit of partnership is why Skills Ignition SG has made such an impact over the past two years. We, our government and our industry partners United in our commitment to help Singapore thrive as a technology leader for the region and the world,” Google said on Wednesday.
Google offers certifications in four areas where there are more job openings than skilled candidates. These include:
- IT Support
- project management
- Data Analytics
- User Experience Design
In addition, Google, in partnership with all technical institutes, technical education institutes, and social service agencies and organizations, will provide scholarships to help up to 5,000 learners obtain a Google Career certification at no cost.
