The Penang government through the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) launched a number of thoughtful initiatives last year.

Initiatives include the Youth Entrepreneurship Forum 2021, the PYDC Basic Skills Program, the 2021 web design competition “Empowering Young Digital Talents” and a three-day digital marketing course.

Prime Minister Zhao Kun Yew said the state will continue to implement and support programs aimed at developing digital skills for all Penang residents, especially the youth.

He hoped for more collaborative measures among all stakeholders including government agencies, private companies and educational institutions to bridge the digital divide.

Zhao was speaking at the 2021 Young Excellence Awards (YEA) Awards Ceremony at the ship’s campus in Batu Kawan near Nypong Tebal.

Also present were the Chairman of the Penang Youth and Sports Commission, Sun Lip Chi, the Director General of PYDC Dr. Joy Sai Ling, the Chairman of the Penang China Chamber of Commerce (PCCC), Datuk Seri Hong Yam Wah, and the Head of the Young Entrepreneurs Department of the Center Li Tong. Lyon. – YEA Chairman Goh Hoon Gwan.

Zhao said the awards are in line with Penang2030’s vision of being a smart, green, family-focused country.

Despite its negative consequences, Covid-19 has helped in the rapid advancement of industries in all fields and the acceleration of technological innovation globally.

“Entrepreneurs and pioneers are essential components of a country’s economy because they complement government contributions to the people.

“Entrepreneurs who think outside the box can make a significant contribution to the country’s development of technology and solutions that will have a positive and long-term impact, especially in the post-pandemic world,” Zhao stressed.

The inaugural edition of YEA 2021 received nearly 300 entries, and 68 winners emerged.

There were a total of 15 award categories.

It included business performance, pandemic business growth, tech entrepreneur, green initiative, brand, social media and influencer, female entrepreneur, Rookie Million Achievement, e-commerce, e-sports, epidemic volunteers, epidemic leadership, and epidemic professionals , university pioneer, and university athlete.

“Through these awards, we can see that Penang has smart, young entrepreneurs who play vital roles in economic productivity.

“With the reimagining of the future, I am confident that the youth of Penang have the potential to achieve business excellence in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

“During this era, we will see the convergence of technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics as well as the Internet of Things,” Zhao said.

He soon said in his speech that the main objective of YEA 2021 is to recognize the desire of young entrepreneurs and senior entrepreneurs to step out of their comfort zone to achieve great things.

He said the program served as an important platform for Penang youth, practitioners and other individuals to meet and exchange views on Penang’s development.
