Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU), located in Wenzhou, China, one of three Sino-American universities along with NYU Shanghai and Duke Kunshan University, is accredited by the Chinese Ministry of Education. Launched in 2012, WKU offers a unique model of higher education in partnership with Keene University, a comprehensive public university in New Jersey accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The School of English Studies is seeking to fill three positions on the career path starting on site for Fall 2022: one in literature (specialist in digital humanities or world literature is preferred but all areas of literature will be considered), and one in public speaking, composition and/or technical and professional writing and the other in Applied Linguistics with a particular focus on translation and TESL. The Assistant Professor/Associate Professor is a full-time employee for a period of 10 months and teaches 24 credit hours per academic year (a version of the course is available for grant proposal development and other substantive research initiatives). Appointment track faculty develop and teach courses related to their academic major and research interests, as well as general education courses as needed. Candidates will be expected to engage in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including high-quality teaching, research, advising, student learning support, curriculum development, program evaluation, student recruitment and retention, working hours, supervising senior projects, and opportunities Internship, undergraduate research experience, and service to the university and/or professional community. Designation of the tenure path requires publications in internationally recognized and highly peer-reviewed journals on English language, rhetoric and composition, linguistics, or other closely related subjects.

Teaching experience with non-native speakers in a foreign country is highly desirable. Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, weekend and online courses. Interest or experience in using advanced educational technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable. A Ph.D. Required in English, rhetoric and composition, or linguistics; An ABD may be considered with completion before the actual date of employment. A minimum of two years teaching experience at a college or university is preferred. Native speakers of English or equivalent English language proficiency is required.

Faculty positions at WKU offer:

  • Salary is $67,000 to $75,000 for associate professors and $73,000 to $83.00 for associate professors depending on qualifications and experience.
